Safari Explorer Cruise Review
Itinerary: Voyagers' Glacier Country - June 2008
We have wanted to see Alaska for the longest time. We knew we did not want casinos, buffets and Las Vegas shows. We knew we wanted small and personal for our once in a life time trip. We explored all the options, Linda of Sunstone Tours & Cruises was very knowledgeable as she has been on all the ships.
The idea of a new ship and 36 passengers appealed to us. As we learned it wasn't a new ship but a completely renovated to perfection ship. We flew to Juneau and stayed at the Alaska Inn B&B up on the hill at the edge of town. After eating their breakfasts every morning it was good we had to walk back up the hill. We explored all that Juneau had to offer in a very busy four day visit. Linda sent us more than enough information to set us in the right direction.
We met our ship at the small dock across from the Goldbelt Hotel. She was gleaming and looked like a private yacht of the rich and famous docked next to the mega Princess ship. We were welcomed on board by the Captain and staff, taken to our beautiful stateroom. We were in C1 on the Main Deck and loved the convenient location. King bed and Jacuzzi tub and shower, what more could we ask for.
Our week went by all to fast. Our fellow passengers were a fascinating lot of people from all corners, well traveled, well educated and all there to experience the destination to it's fullest.
If I could pick a high point it was visiting the western arm of Glacier Bay National Park. At every moment there was some type of wildlife in view of our boat. It was a bright sunny day and the glaciers were sparkling. We picked up a piece of ice in a fishing type net to see the color and density.
We hiked, we kayaked, we went in zodiacs at every chance, we visited small villages, we saw bears and bears and more bears. We over knighted in little private coves, quiet and so serene each night.
The size of the ship, the number of passengers and crew could not have been more perfect. Everything I could mention would be a 10 on the scale. American Safari Cruises you far exceeded our expectations.
