Pearl Mist Cruise Review
Itinerary: Great Lakes & Georgian Bay Cruise - August 2014
Cabin 315 - Balcony
I enjoyed this experience very much. The ship is new and this was only its 5th sailing only the second time it did this itinerary. The ship is beautiful, our cabin was large with the surprise of a "normal" size bathroom. Bed comfortable sheets and towels ok quality. Cabin could be either twin or queen. TV's were small.
We came into Toronto, included pre cruise hote at the Fairmont Royal York. Nice hotel and transfer to the ship, luggage went straight to our cabin.
Food: good at all meals. I never made it to breakfast, but lunch and dinner had a good selection. Beer and wine flows at meals. Daily cocktail hour prior to dinner also complimentary.
Tours: All went well and we had a number of options in most ports. We came upon really bad weather one night where the ship was rocking like crazy. I think it was the next morn ing we came into Detroit and found the city was flooded and we had to miss some of the excursions. Little Current we saw a lovely Indian Show and learned about their culture, in Holland a windmill tour was offered, learning all about windmills and tulips, excellent tour. Mackinac Island, we took the buggy everywhere around town, absolutely charming. Niagara Falls, a beer distillery and others.
Entertainment: Varied. For few nights a lovely duo, last few nights a not so lovely duo. There was a comedian one night. We had a gentleman giving lectures. These are definitely two areas that need improvement.
We were off the ship at 9am with transfers to our complimentary post hotel in Chicago. A little mix up with the luggage that was soon straighten out. A lovely three hour trolley tour of Chicago. A night at the hotel and transfer to the airport the next morning.
A side note that this ship is registered in the Marshall Islands. Yet it is part of American Cruise Lines, as some of the staff were wearing American Cruise Line apparel. There were a number of single ladies on the ship and all seemed to have a good time. All in all, a great experience in an area that has been on my bucket list for a long time. Yes, they have some kinks to work out.
