Paul Gauguin Cruise Review
Itinerary: Tahiti and Society Islands - June 2013
Best trip ever ! We debated on this trip for two years before finally taking the plunge. And why we waited I will never know. It was spectacular in every way. Or at least in every way that Paul Gauguin has control over.
As you warned us, arrival and departure at the airport in Papeetee is a nightmare of disorganization and chaos. The flight from LAX was pleasant and the time went by, as you said one long movie and two drinks beyond Hawaii. The time is the same as Hawaii. So we arrive, relaxed and rested after the long flight, waiting to see the beautiful Tahiti we have so long dreamed about. But, you have to negotiate the airport first.
Once on the Paul Gauguin bus with our luggage we were pampered for the next seven days in every manner possible.
Some drizzle but nothing that would interfere with our enjoyment of everything going on.
I felt at the top of the food chain. Everything was prepared beautifully, portions were perfect and you could get seconds of anything you wanted. The first night I asked for beer and they gave me the list of options. I happen to like German beer and mentioned that to the waiter. I don't know where they got it but the second night and for the rest of the cruise I was served German beer.
The ship was spotless and people continually cleaning day and night. We had one of the lowest category rooms and it was very more than adequate. HA HA yes, one could easily fall in love with the Gauguines.
We didn't take many but the ones we did were excellent. Especially the "Walking Underwater in Bora Bora. A very unique experience. We found the vendors on the islands selling things to the cruise passengers to be well mannered and not at all aggressive or pushy which we appreciated.
One of our best vacations and we take small ships all the time. We were as you know concerned about the size of this ship. No need, everything runs smoothly and we never felt anything but personal attention. Linda again you were good to us, very responsive to all our needs in making the reservations. We will travel with Sunstone Tours again.
