Cruise Review: Cruise West - Spirit of Endeavour

Alaska's Whales and Wilderness - August 2007

Captain Mike ran a tight ship. He was always with us when he wasn't on the bridge or sleeping which he never seemed to do. He ran our DIB's (zodiacs) and whenever they were taken out.

We loved our trip to Alaska on Cruise West. We had 100 like minded passengers from age 11 (we had eight kids under 16) to a grandmother at 88. The kids all seemed to have a good time.

We had a deluxe cabin which was a treat. We had a refrigerator and beautiful flowers. We had a queen bed which is a luxury on a small ship.

We saw brown bears, whales and more whales, glaciers, foxes, puffins, eagles, sea lions, sea otters, etc etc. We did not see a moose or orcas which we were hoping for. Cruise West has a Whale Guarantee, they will refund $250 if you do not see a whale. No one in our group received a refund as we saw whales breaching and another rolling in sea weed and many many others. We had Ranger Ken on our ship while in Glacier Bay. We had Faith on the ship when in Tlinket territory to explain their lives and culture, we had Mary Jo on the ship when we visited Elfin Cove.

Pluses:

  • good education from naturalists
  • like minded group of people
  • good food
  • good service

This ship does not have bingo or lavish buffets, instead they get up close and person with nature.

We signed up for the referral fee of $50 shipboard credit for watching the webex presentation they had.

We have already put a hold on two cabins for Baja in January. YEAH on that.

Linda, thank you for the map and all the work on our behalf.
