Alaska Cruise Reviews: Spirit of '98

Alaska's Inside Passage - August 17, 2006

Hi Linda. I had a great time on my Inside Passage cruise to Alaska on the Spirit of '98! There were a lot of things that I liked, but one of the highlights was the people. There was also beautiful scenery and glaciers. We stopped in a lot of different towns and were able to see so much of Alaska on our small ship cruise.

Since I am a kid, I went thinking the only kids that were going to be there were my sister and I. But when we got on the bus, from the hotel in Ketchikan to the boat, my dad, sister, and I met another kid and his family. We spent most of the time with them, but the rest of the time we (my sister and I) were playing games with new friends and drinking a lot of Pepsi and Ginger-Ale which is FREE onboard! We ended up becoming friends with most of the people on the ship. The crew was also really friendly and nice to us.

The scenery was amazing. We saw a lot of whales and millions of bald eagles. We also saw a lot of baby seals in Glacier Bay. It was so amazing because whenever you looked out at sea you always saw a whale breeching, bubble feeding, or just swimming and spraying mist. Whenever you looked on land, you would see an eagle. One pretty amazing thing was we got to see seven orcas. My sister and I had a contest to count all the eagles, and we both lost track around 150! That was the same for the glaciers they were also spectacular. We had perfect timing, because it was the middle of spawning season, and we all saw millions of salmon.

All the towns were amazing, but my favorite was Ketchikan. The hotel (Cape Fox) was great and it was the perfect sized town. I also liked Skagway, because the train ride was really fun. You go up the mountain where the gold miners camped, and then you stop at the Alaska Yukon Territory, and then turn around and go back. When we were in Petersburg, the three of us really enjoyed Hungry Point Trail. I really thought the Raptor Center in Sitka was awesome too. One of the funnest thing was river rafting in Haines, (that's where my sister and I saw most of the eagles, 78).

Those were all the highlights of the trip, for me, but there might be many more things that you would like that I didn't even mention. But you'll never know, until you try it out for yourself!!! So if you want to see a lot of Alaska, beautiful glaciers and lots of whales and eagles and make lots of new friends along the way, this Cruise West Inside Passage cruise should be your choice!

Your Friend,
Bridger - 12 years old
