Alaska Cruise Reviews: Spirit of Endeavour

Alaska's Whales and Wilderness - July 2007

If I had to use just one word to describe my trip in Alaska, I would use AMAZING !!

I know how hard it can be to keep kids, especially teenagers, from being bored. Well, on this trip there were four kids/teenagers: besides myself 17 years old, there was my brother, 15 and our two cousins 13 and 9. None of us were ever board. In fact, when it was all over, none of us wanted to leave the ship, our parents, grandparents, and uncle included. There was always something to do. Whether it was watching a humpback whale do a record seventy-something skyhopes, a seal throwing their fish around, a group of Orcas showing their little ones how to hunt, or bald eagles chasing each other. And whether we wanted to be up close to the glaciers while they were carving or to the otters playing in the kelp, or if we wanted to be up higher to view the mountain goats, we were able to get tons of cool pictures.

Along with the animals goes the scenery. I never really realized how large glaciers were until they were a quarter to half mile away and I saw/heard them caving. And the waterfall, they were everywhere. If we kids got tired of watching all the mountains that passed by our windows, then we would watch a movie or play a game instead, until something excited happened. But even just the mountains by themselves were interesting to look at. Especially when they had snow on the top, nice green grass and trees at the bottom and a layer in the middle. Maybe that's just because I am from Wisconsin, and where I live we just have gentle rolling hills.

The animals and the views weren't the only wonderful things about the trip. The food that we were served  was DELICIOUS. The appetites of both kids and adults were always satisfied. My favorite was the brie covered in ground up macadamia nuts toped with a warm raspberry sauce. Nobody ever left the table hungry.
