Thank you for the thermal mugs. They really came in handy for early
morning coffee on the aft deck enjoying the views. Of course, Tom and
I were awed by Alaska's beauty, but were even more delighted by the spectacular
encounters with wildlife -- pods of orcas, humpback whales lunge feeding,
tail slapping and breeching, stellar sea lions, harbor seals, grizzly
bears and even mountain goats grazing on the slopes near the water. There
were many birds, including wonderful views of bald eagles, and close
up views of the Johns Hopkins glacier calving. One of my favorite side
trips was the one to the Anan Bear Observatory where I captured on video
a mother grizzly catching a fish, with her two cubs watching from shore.
The attached photo is a black bear cub who climbed a tree near the observation
deck and posed for us. It's just one of the wonderful memories I have.
