Valletta to Rome

This voyage combines Ottoman and Western history with ruggedly beautiful scenery, sailing from picturesque Valletta to Tunisia, Algeria, Sardinia and Rome. You’ll enjoy a leisurely day at sea before arriving in North Africa. Here, you can bargain in the Medina of Sousse. Visit the palace of a wealthy 18th-century Ottoman merchant in Tunis. Explore Annaba, where Saint Augustine of Hippo lived, taught and wrote. Cruise the Amalfi Coast — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and the Italian Riviera before arriving in Rome.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Valletta, Malta
Arrive in Valletta, Malta, and check into your included hotel.

Day 2 - Valletta, Malta
Morning at leisure. Prior to embarkation, enjoy a highlight tour of Valletta en route to the ship.

Day 3 - At Sea

Day 4 - Sousse, Tunisia
A unique shopping experience awaits in the Medina of Sousse, a covered bazaar where you’ll find bargains on jewelry and more.

Day 5 - La Goulette (Tunis), Tunisia
Explore two UNESCO World Heritage Sites — the intriguing Medina of Tunis and the site of the ancient Phoenician city of Carthage.

Day 6 - Annaba, Algeria
Savor the flavor of Phoenician life in this ancient town, then on to the hot springs and “frozen” waterfall of Guelma.

Day 7 - El-Kala, Algeria
Get a close-up view and outstanding photographs of African wildlife in their natural habitat at the National Park of El-Kala.

Day 8 - Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy
Only in Sardinia will you find nuraghe, megalithic beehive-like tower communities dating back to 3000 B.C. Your day includes a visit to the ruins of Su Nuraxi di Barumini.

Day 9 - Arbatax, Sardinia, Italy
Today we slow down the pace and take out the Zodiac boats to explore the rocky inlets between Arbatax and Cala. (Zodiac landing or touring)

Day 11 - Amalfi, Italy
Tour the spectacular Amalfi Coast on your way to Ravello and the ancient ruins of Pompeii.

Day 12 - Ponziane Islands, Italy
Wander around a sleepy Italian fishing village with colorful houses set amongst white cliffs and sandy beaches. Sample the local seafood and wine.

Day 13 - Gaeta, Italy
We travel from Gaeta to the Reggia di Caserta, an 18th-century palace and gardens, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 14 - Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
Disembark or continue your journey with the next voyage.
