Sail the Caribbean aboard Sea Cloud II

The Sea Cloud II sails the natural features of the Caribbean and visits colonial towns, historic forts and botanical gardens. You'll learn about reef ecology, as we snorkel among colorful corals and tropical fish. And, you'll discover a surprising mosaic. French, Dutch, English and Spaniards traded these islands as pawns and left their persisting imprints in a diversity of historic culture and architecture. During your time aboard, we will help to illuminate and navigate these cultures, both historic and contemporary.

Itinerary

DAY 1 — U.S./Barbados/Embark (D)

DAY 2 — Under Sail
We have the day to enjoy one of the great pleasures of travel anywhere: sailing aboard our barque, seeing the crew go aloft unfurling the sails the traditional way — by hand — as we sail the trade winds. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the many amenities of our unique sailing vessel. (B,L,D)

DAY 3 — Domenica / Isles des Saintes
Dominica is called the “Nature Island” because of its beauty and many reserves. Hike through enchanting rain forest, walk up to the ruins of 18th-century Fort Shirley with our Historian, or go for a swim and snorkel. In the evening we anchor at beautiful Isles des Saintes. Enjoy the anchorage, or discover the nightlife ashore on your own. (B,L,D)

DAY 4 — Iles des Saintes/Under Sail
Iles des Saintes are decidedly French in character. Visit the town’s shops, galleries and cafés, don some snorkeling gear, or walk with our Historian up to Fort Napoleon for panoramic vistas. This afternoon we set sail in the Guadeloupe Channel, where the winds fill the square sails in a glorious spectacle. Conditions permitting, we’ll lower Zodiacs so you can go alongside and get great photographs of the Sea Cloud II. (B,L,D)

DAY 5 — Under Sail/Soufrière & Les Pitons, St. Lucia
After a morning’s sailing, we anchor under the iconic twin peaks of St. Lucia, called “Les Pitons.” Drive through the active crater, plunge under a tropical waterfall, explore the beautiful botanical gardens, and finish with an incredible view from the hills above. (B,L,D)

DAY 6 — Under Sail/Bequia, the Grenadines
After a morning’s sailing, we arrive at tiny Bequia. Stroll the quaint waterfront, swim and snorkel, or visit the sea turtle sanctuary. Enjoy dinner aboard, or if you wish, take in the laid-back evening scene ashore. (B,L,D)

DAY 7 — Tobago Cays/Under Sail
The morning is devoted to exploring the idyllic Tobago Cays Marine Park, with quintessential white-sand beaches and coral reefs. Enjoy a last swim and snorkel, before the Sea Cloud II heads back to Barbados. (B,L,D)

DAY 8 — Barbados/Disembark/Home (B)

Price Includes: All accommodations aboard ship and all meals, wine and beer with lunch and dinner and nonalcoholic beverages aboard ship, transfers when group flights are used, taxes and service charges, use of snorkeling gear, services of a ship physician and services of our expedition staff.
