This is Alaska as it was meant to be seen. Only daylight cruising among whales, bears and spectacular scenery! This 9 day cruise takes time to visit the unique sites off the beaten path with time to enjoy the majesty of SE Alaska. You 'll visit a remote lighthouse, meet the keeper and play with his dogs. Situated at the top of Frederick Sound, It sits on a rocky island surrounded by waters rich with Humpback Whales and sea lions. You'll also be one of the few to spend a night in Spectacular "Fords Terror". A place to kayak and watch brown bears that frequent this majestic canyon. Spend a full 24 hours here, immersed in the Tongass National forest, surrounded by 5,000 foot cliffs and waterfalls. Later visit a town of 95 residents - Tenakee Springs. See how real Alaskans enjoy their remote community. Visit Dawe's Glacier, Sitka and Petersburg, Alaska. All in comfortable surroundings, pastry chef and all!
Day-to-Day Itinerary
- Day 1 — Sitka, Alaska

Your morning arrival in Sitka will give you time to shop and get lunch on your own before the tour starts at 1 p.m. Tours include the Alaska Raptor Center, Totem Park and the Sheldon Jackson Museum. Join us aboard the Island Spirit for cocktails following your tour as we depart for our evening anchorage. Enjoy beautiful scenery along the way. D
- Day 2 — Baranof Warm Springs

Experience more of the great wilderness as we make our way to Baranof Warm Springs Bay. This will be our anchorage for the evening. Take a hike up to the lake and learn about the Muskeg along the way. Later, soak in one of the hot sulphur tubs while enjoying the waterfall view. BLD
- Days 3 — Chatham Strait / Tenakee Springs

Today, we cruise north in Chatham Strait for a visit to the small community of Tenakee Springs (population 97). Enjoy a stroll to the bakery and the local mercantile, and visit with locals for an interesting Alaskan afternoon. Tonight, we will anchor in a nearby bay of the Captain's choosing. BLD
- Day 4 — Chatham Strait / Barlow Cove

Heading further north in the Chatham Strait, we watch for humpback whales that frequent this area in the summer months. We may stop along the way to explore a bay or two as we make our way to Barlow Cove. BLD
- Day 5-6 — Juneau, Alaska / Endicott Arm, Dawes Glacier and Fords Terror

We get an early start this morning to make port in Juneau by 9 a.m. Enjoy time for shopping before lunch. We depart around noon for Endicott Arm, Dawes Glacier and Fords Terror. We will spend two days exploring this area. BLD
- Days 7 - Stephens Passage

Heading south in Stephens Passage, we will again be on the lookout for whales as they feed and play in the local waters. If tides are good, we may have a chance to visit the oldest lighthouse in Southeast Alaska. Our anchorage tonight will be in either Farragut or Portage Bay. Enjoy a beach walk. BLD
- Day 8 — Petersburg, AK

This morning, we make our way into the fishing community of Petersburg. Here you may have the opportunity to visit a local cannery (fish pending) and get in a little more shopping. Dinner tonight is traditional at the Sons of Norway Hall, complete with entertainment. BLD
- Day 9 - Petersburg, AK / Disembark Ship
Transfers to the airport after breakfast for flights home. B

Ships
Island Spirit
The Island Spirit carries up to 32 passengers overnight in 17 comfortable staterooms. Each room has a private bath and shower, as well as a minimum of one large opening window for wonderful views and fresh air ventilation. There are two staircases for access between decks. The stairs are brightly lit and are easy to navigate with handrails. Although we cruise in primarily protected waterways, the Island Spirit has been upgraded to 2010 USCG vessel standards. The vessel utilizes fin stabilizers and a reshaped hull for extra stability and cruising comfort.
