Safari Spirit Cruise Review
Itinerary: Discoverer's Glacier Country - August 2010
Eight of our family members went on your small 12 passenger yacht. We all felt special the minute we walked up the dock to the ship. There you were waiting for us, everyone in their special uniform. Our family consisted of 20 year old to our parents who paid for it all who are not very active 80 years olds. I will say that each of us felt catered to and things were always accommodated for our exercise abilities. Nick our 20 year old was the youngest on the ship and we were concerned. What we didn't realize is that some of the crew is only a few years older than he is and they took him under their wing for the whole week. I think he felt like an honorary crew members. Food was delicious and my diabetic father was taken care of. It was clearly what I would imagine a yacht experience would be. We felt rich and famous for the whole week. We would dock next to other even more luxurious yachts.
We seemed to have no particular schedule, but I suspect we did. We felt unhurried and had extra time to stop and view things that were of importance. We had whales stay with us for hours in Frederick Sound. We saw bears around Admiralty Island and many Sea Lion colonies. Birds were everywhere and made my inlaws very happy. We jumped off the ship in the freezing cold water and have pictures to prove it.
Our other fellow cruisers were lovely, two couples from Texas who seemed to fit right into our family mix. We spent many evenings playing with the staff and our new friends in very competitive board games.
We all came home with hundreds of pictures. We are going to get together this weekend and have a salmon dinner and reminisce on our trip and wish we could beam ourselves back in front of those magnificent glaciers.
